From design to MSAccess using DBDesigner 4
The boys at FabForce (no, itââ¬â¢s not Queer I(T) for a Straight Guy) have built a great database design tool call DB Designer 4.
Primarily it works with MySQL but by scouring the forums, I found a script to produce Oracle SQL so with a bit of editing (Vim, we love you so), I was able to spit out my own flavour of MSAccess SQL.
I say ââ¬Åmy flavourââ¬Â because I have a tool which can read such scripts and execute them, thereby allowing me a hands off database design.
Sure, it doesnââ¬â¢t insert all those nice comments, and default fields to dropdown lists (yet), but it works! Couple this with your Make program and voila hands-off database creation.
Better than that - you can then create scripts to insert data for better testing of your database and associated front end.
Alas, the tool to run the scripts is not ready for prime time, but for you ââ¬Åwarts and allââ¬Â folks who donââ¬â¢t care how it works just that it works.
So if you like to live on the edge ;-P then drop us a line and Iââ¬â¢ll send it on overââ¬Â¦.
